Bojangles Players to Watch

Defending Champion Patrick Stephenson

 

SOUTHERN PINES, N.C. (June 1, 2016) – The TYGA Bojangles Junior Open will be played at Cutter Creek Golf Club on June 4-5, 2016. The event will be a 36-hole stroke play championship. There will be three age divisions, Boys’ 13-14, Boys’ 15-16 and Boys’ 17-18, with all participants playing from the same tees. The top 10 in the overall division will receive exemptions into the 12th Dogwood Junior Championship.

Cutter Creek Golf Club is located in the plains of Snow Hill, NC. The course was designed by Bob Moore of JMP Golf Design. Positioned close to both Kinston and Greenville, NC the golf course is laid out over 220 acres. Cutter Creek Golf Club has quickly become one of the toughest tests of golf in Eastern, NC.

Patrick Stephenson of Four Oaks, N.C. The defending champion has his eyes set on another high finish. A high school senior headed to play for East Carolina in the fall, Stephenson recently won the NC 3-A state championship. He is #2 in the NC junior boys' rankings and finished in a tie for 6th at last weekend’s 4th Creed Boys Invitational.

Jimbo Stanley of Raleigh, N.C. A high school junior, Stanley finished in a tied for 2nd in the Boys’ 15-16 Division and tied for fourth overall at the 2015 Bojangles Junior Open. Stanley’s third place finish at last weekend’s Tarheel Golf Foundation event suggests he is poised for another top finish. He is #7 in the NC junior boys’ rankings.

Chris Kim of Cary, N.C. A high school freshman, Kim finished second in the Boys’ 13-14 Division at the 2015 Bojangles. He is #27 in the NC junior boys’ rankings.

Brian Chen of Cary, N.C. A high school junior, Chen won the Boys’ 15-16 Division and placed third overall at the 2015 Bojangles. He is #29 in the NC junior boys rankings.

Dalton Mauldin of Sanford, N.C. A high school junior, Mauldin recently tied for 6th at the NC 3-A state championship. Mauldin checks in at #31 in the NC junior boys’ rankings.

Michael Childress of Salisbury, N.C. A high school sophomore, Childress recently notched a fifth place finish at the NCISAA 3-A state championship. After starting the year with three straight second place finishes, Childress stands at #36 in the NC junior boys’ rankings. 

Matthew Guo of Clemmons, N.C. A high school junior, Guo recently finished in the top 20 at the NC 4-A state championships. Guo finished in a tie for forth in the Boys’ 15-16 Division at the 2015 Bojangles.

Rhodes Karriker of Mathews, N.C. A high school junior, Karriker had a top five finish in high school play this spring. He also won a TYGA event last June.

Grayson Wotnosky of Wake Forest, N.C. A rising high school freshman, Wotnosky has recorded four top five finishes thus far this year. He secured a third place finish in the 13-14 Division at the 2015 Bojangles.   

Zach Brown of Advance, N.C. A high school freshman, Brown recorded a top 20 finish at the NC 4-A state championship. He also finished in a tie for fourth in the Boys’ 13-14 Division at the 2015 Bojangles.

The Tarheel Youth Golf Association (TYGA), a division of the Carolinas Golf Association, a 501 (c) 3 organization, provides playing opportunities for its members, conducts educational seminars and events, acts as a junior golf informational clearinghouse, provides free USGA handicaps to junior golfers in North Carolina, recruits sponsor clubs that grant junior access to golf facilities in North Carolina, publishes monthly North Carolina junior rankings, and awards Junior Player of the Year and All-State awards to the top juniors in North Carolina.  Membership is open to any boy or girl who are legal residents of N.C; are 18 years of age and under; and who have not started college.
