Einstein and Nagy Win 7th TYGA State Championship
BUIES CREEK, N.C. (November 20, 2016) -- Final round results from the Tarheel Youth Golf Association's State Championship at Keith Hills Country Club in Buies Creek, N.C. on November 20, 2016.
Brandon Einstein of Clemmons, N.C. came into round two, one shot behind first round leader Spencer Oxendine of Fayetteville. Einstein used his ball striking to spring himself to the top of the leaderboard, hitting 30 of 36 greens this weekend. His ball striking was on display on holes 10 and 11, knocking these two approach shots inside 10 feet. Einstein was able to convert both birdies giving him a three shot cushion over Oxendine. The three shot lead was enough for Einstein to close out the tournament with one of the biggest victories of his junior career.
Jenna Nagy of Apex, N.C. held a two shot lead in the girls’ division over Amy Wooten of Clinton, and Nicole Adam of Pinehurst. Nicole Adam pressured Nagy all day and eventually drew even with her on fifteen before Nagy was able to pull away on the final two holes for a four shot victory.
This annual junior championship is conducted by the Tarheel Youth Golf Association (TYGA), a division of the Carolinas Golf Association. TYGA wishes to thank Campbell University, Keith Hills CC, golf course superintendent Damon Dean and head golf professional Martha Sutton for hosting the tournament and to volunteer rules officials George Kress, Larry McWane, Carolyn Sidor, and Ron Sidor who all contributed to a great event.
