Eston Lee of Four Oaks, N.C. will look to finish as this year's overall champion after winning the 14-15 division last year.

SOUTHERN PINES, N.C. (June 25, 2018) -- The Carolinas Golf Association will conduct the TYGA Coastal Plains Junior at Greenville Country Club in Greenville, N.C. from June 28-29.

Players to watch:

Boys 16-18 Division

• Eston Lee of Four Oaks, N.C. won the 14-15 division at last year's tournament and has totaled seven top-10 finishes in 2018. The rising high school junior is currently ranked 48th in the TYGA Junior Boys' Rankings.

• Carter Boulia of Cary, N.C. finished tied for eighth in the 14-15 division last year, and the rising high school senior will look to improve on that strong performance in this year's competition. Boulia is currently ranked 64th in the TYGA Junior Boys' Rankings.

Boys 14-15 Division

• Hayes Mahoney of Greenville, N.C. won the 12-13 division last year and will look to do the same in a new division at this year's competition.

• Kyle Kushnir of Raleigh, N.C. has two top-six finishes so far this year to go along with a top-15 finish at the NCHSAA 3A State Championship. Kushnir currently sits at 133rd in the TYGA Junior Boys' Rankings.

Boys 12-13 Division

• Chris Ha of Fayetteville, N.C. has three top-15 finishes in 2018 and is the highest ranked player in his division at 215th in the TYGA Junior Boys' Rankings.

• Will Guidry of Winterville, N.C. finished second in the 11 and under division at last year's tournament, shooting just one-over-par in two days and will hope to play well again this year in a new division.

Girls 14-18 Division

• Trinity Ahing of New Bern, N.C. won the 14-15 division and finished second overall in last year's competition and has already racked up three wins in 2018. The rising high school senior is currently ranked 57th in the TYGA Junior Girls' Rankings.

• Toni Blackwell of Fayetteville, N.C. has seven top-10 finishes in 2018 including one win earlier this month. The rising high school junior sits at 71st in the TYGA Junior Girls' Rankings.

11 and Under Division

• Wells Mahoney of Greenville, N.C. finished 12th in the 11 and under division last year and will look to come out on top as the only return competitor to that division in this year's tournament.

 

The Greenville course was built in 1923 as a 9-hole golf course. In later years, the course transitioned into an 18-hole facility.  In 1993, golf architect John Lafoy engineered a major renovation, and the course reopened in October 1994. The course, with its tree-lined fairways and champion Bermuda greens, offers a challenge for all skill levels. The Greenville course has hosted numerous Carolina Golf Association events, state championships and qualifiers. This will be Greenville CC's first time hosting the TYGA Coastal Plains Junior.

The championship format is 36 holes of stroke play. The 11 and under division will play only nine holes per day.

Entry is open to any male or female amateur golfer ages 8 to 18 as of June 29, 2018, who has not started college, and is a legal resident of North Carolina. Entries are subject to rejection at any time, including during the event, by the TYGA or the host club. The reason for rejection may include unbecoming conduct or cell phone use during a stipulated round.
