Cameron Hardison of Greenville, N.C. and Owen Kose of Holly Springs, N.C. tied for first with rounds of 2-under par, 70, after the first round of the TYGA Bojangles Junior Open.
“My putting was definitely the best part of my game today, if I can do that tomorrow I’ll be happy,” Hardison said.
Hardison has had six top 20 finishes in 2020, most recently tying for ninth place at the TYGA- Triad Greensboro Junior Boys’ Open. He also tied for second and third place in the Winternational- Series Event #4 and #5 in January.
While his putting carried his round, Hardison said that for tomorrow he plans on zeroing in on his off shots off the tee.
On the other hand, Kose said that his tee shots were consistent, however the real scoring came from his short iron play.
“I hit a lot of green today, I think I only missed two greens and I made a decent amount of putts, definitely could have made a few more, so tomorrow I’ll definitely try to stay focused and keep hitting those greens. It makes things a little easier,” Kose said.
Timmy Gannon of Charlotte, N.C. and Colin Salema of Matthews, N.C. are both one shot off the lead, carrying a 1-under par, 71.
“I hit the ball well, managed to keep it in the fairway so that’s always good. I hit quite a few shots into the green too so that helped. I’m pretty happy with my score,” Gannon said.
Gannon has been staying in the house self-quarantining and not practicing as much as he usually would, so he is happy to be back out on the course.
