Preview: 4th Bill Harvey Memorial Junior

 

SOUTHERN PINES, N.C. (October 23, 2020) -- The Tarheel Youth Golf Association will conduct the 4th Bill Harvey Memorial Junior at Bryan Park Golf Club in Browns Summit, N.C. from October 24 - 25, 2020. (Girls: 5,610 yards, par 72, 72.3/128) (Boys 12 - 13: 5,610 yards, par 72, 67.6/116) (Boys 14 - 15 and 16 - 18: 6,516 yards, par 72, 71.0/129)

The Bill Harvey Memorial Junior was created in memory of the late Bill Harvey who left a lasting mark on golf in the Carolinas during his long and distinguished amateur career. Mr. Harvey spent more than 40 years playing tournament golf, amassing more than 300 titles and earning places in both the Carolinas Golf and Guilford County Sports halls of fame. Mr. Harvey won eight CGA championships including three Carolinas Amateur titles (1964, ‘65, ‘73), three Carolinas Four-Ball wins (1960, ‘64, ‘66), Carolinas Senior Amateur (1990) and the North Carolina Amateur (1966). He also played in 18 U.S. Amateur Championships and won the following tournaments during his career: North Carolina Open, American Amateur Classic, Dixie Amateur, Porter Cup, Dogwood Invitational, National Tournament of Champions (six times) and the Rice Planters (twice). Mr. Harvey spent a lifetime sharing his love of the game with countless others keeping golf fun for all to enjoy.

Girls’ Division:

 

  • Gracie Song of Waxhaw, N.C. won the Precision Junior Girls’ at Bryan Park in July which could expectedly give her a leg up this week. Song has placed in the top-10 in 24 of her last 29 starts including a second place finish at the TYGA Triad Sapona Junior and a tie for fifth at the N.C. Junior Girls’. Song is the No. 22 ranked golfer in the N.C. Junior Girls’ Rankings.
     

  • Ella Kue of Kings Mountain, N.C. captured the TYGA Archdale-Trinity Chamber Junior earlier this month to climb up the N.C. Junior Girls’ Rankings to the No. 32 rank. Kue also took home the TYGA High Point Junior, finished in second at the Triad Maple Chase Junior and finished in third at the Daniel Meggs Memorial and Tournament of Champions this year.
     

  • Kaitlyn Rand of Raleigh, N.C. won the TYGA Sandhills at Southern Pines Golf Club just last month and finished in 13th at the TYGA SAS Junior in August. 

 

Boys’ Division:

 

  • Branden Boyce of Spring Lake, N.C. is the No. 6 ranked golfer in the state after winning the TYGA State Championship and Tournament of Champions in the last two months. Boyce also won the Sandhills Flyers and tied for third at the Carolinas PGA Junior this year.
     

  • Andrew Plate of Greensboro, N.C. finished in 8th in this event last year and has since tied for third at the Carolinas PGA Junior and tied for ninth at the N.C. Junior Boys’. Plate is tied for the 8th rank in the N.C. Junior Boys’ Rankings.
     

  • Kyle Kushnir of Raleigh, N.C. is the No. 10 ranked golfer in the N.C. Junior Boys’ Rankings. Kushnir won the Tarheel Golf Foundation Bullet and Peggy Bell Holiday Classic in November. Since then he tied for third at the N.C. Junior Boys’ and tied for seventh at the TYGA Bojangles Junior Open.
     

  • Tyler Jones of Jacksonville, N.C. has had an impressive fall season that has earned him the No. 12 ranked position in the N.C. Junior Boys’ Rankings. Jones began with winning the Webb Simpson Challenge followed by finishing as the runner-up at the Down East Junior. He also finished in third at the High Point Junior and the Todd Kinlaw Memorial.

 

  • Bryan Fang of Raleigh, N.C. finished in third at the Hope Valley Junior in August which he immediately followed with a tied for seventh at the TYGA SAS Junior. After a fifth place finish at the ACC Southeastern Fall Classic, Fang is now the No. 19 ranked golfer in the N.C. Junior Boys’ Rankings.  

 

  • Jake Herring of Wilson, N.C. tied for fifth at the N.C. Junior Boys’ and won the ACC Southeastern Fall Classic to earn the 22nd rank in the N.C. Junior Boys’ Rankings.

 

Bryan Park Golf Club has hosted the Bill Harvey Memorial Junior every year since the event’s creation in 2017. Bryan Park offers two golf courses and the field will take on The Players Course this week. With Bentgrass greens and Bermuda fairways, the course is in excellent condition for this weekend’s event.


The Bill Harvey Memorial Junior is a 36-hole, stroke play event.


Entry is open to any male or female amateur golfer ages 12 to 18 as of October 24, 2020, who has not started college and is a legal resident of North Carolina.
