River Landing Junior Open First Round Results
WALLACE, N.C. (May 22, 2021) -- First round results of the TYGA River Landing Junior Open at the River Course at River Landing Country Club in Wallace, N.C. on May 22, 2021. The boys’ field is competing at 6,942 yards, par 72. The girls’ field is competing at 5,595 yards, par 72.

Ryan Jahr of Ocean Isle Beach, N.C. leads the boys’ division with a first round of 3-under-par, 69. Jahr is currently ranked No. 39 in the N.C. Junior Boys Rankings.
Going into his 17th hole, Jahr was tied for the lead at 2-under-par with Ethan Paschal of Fayetteville, N.C. After a clinical approach shot over the water onto the 18th green, Jahr sank his putt for his fifth birdie, placing him atop the leaderboard, just one stroke over Paschal.
When asked about the key moment in his round today, Jahr remarked, “On my approach shot onto the green I was kind of blocked a little bit by a tree. I was able to hit a slight hook around it, hit the green, then made the putt.” In total, Jahr carded 11 pars, five birdies and two bogeys.
Paschal holds second position with a stellar 2-under-par, 70 finish. Like Jahr, Paschal kept a clean scorecard with five birdies, ten pars, and three bogeys. Paschal is ranked No. 38 in the N.C. Junior Boys Rankings and recently tied for 2nd at the NCHSAA-3A State Championship.
Going into Sunday’s final round, three boys are tied for third. Sean Finan of Winston-Salem, N.C., Pennson Badgett of Pilot Mountain, N.C. and John Logan of Wilmington, N.C. shot even-par, 72 to place them just three shots off the lead.
In the girls’ division, Jenna Rutledge of Beaufort, N.C. leads the field after an opening round of 6-over-par, 78. Rutledge recently tied for third at the NCHSAA- 1A/2A State Championship. She had fourteen pars in her round today and has a 2-stroke edge over the rest of the field going into Sunday’s round.
Sadler Miller of Clayton, N.C. holds second position with a score of 8-over-par, 80. She is well within striking distance of the lead along with Sidney Renville of Cary, N.C. who holds third position at 9-over-par, 81.

The Tarheel Youth Golf Association (TYGA), a division of the Carolinas Golf Association, a 501 (c) 3 organization, provides playing opportunities for its members, conducts educational seminars and events, acts as a junior golf informational clearinghouse, provides free USGA handicaps to junior golfers in North Carolina, recruits sponsor clubs that grant junior access to golf facilities in North Carolina, publishes monthly North Carolina junior rankings, and awards Junior Player of the Year and All-State awards to the top juniors in North Carolina. Membership is open to any boy or girl who are legal residents of N.C; are 18 years of age and under; and who have not started college.
