Buies Creek, NC-The Green Hope High School Girls golf team captured the 2nd North State Girls’ High School Challenge hosted by Keith Hills Country Club in Buies Creek, NC. The Falcons beat out the best high school teams that came from the foothills to the coast of North Carolina. The Falcons combined for a total score of 249. Green Hopes team was comprised of Amanda Yannoni, Meghan Symonds, Reilly Thomas and Mirren Hill. The Bengal’s of Fuquay-Varina High School finished second, a slim four strokes back. Durham Academy took home third place.
Anna Redding of Concord, NC took home the individual honors shooting an even par 72. The senior at Cannon School and future Virginia Cavalier used two birdies on the day including one on her final hole to win the title by one shot over Catherine Ashworth of Fuquay Varina, NC. Ashworth, the reigning Carolinas Golf Association Twin States Girls’ Champion had a very steady day that consisted of three bogeys, two birdies and 13 pars. Morgan Laird of Waxhaw, NC finished in solo third battling back after an outward nine 39 shooting an even par back nine for a 75.
This event was organized in collaboration with the Peggy Kirk Bell Tour. The TYGA and PKBT would like to send out a special thank you to Keith Hills Golf Club Director of Golf Martha Sutton, golf course superintendent Damon Dean and their staffs for assisting with a very successful event. Also we want to thank all the coaches for their efforts bringing their teams from all across the state to compete.
The Tarheel Youth Golf Association (TYGA) is a division of the Carolinas Golf Association (CGA). TYGA is a 501 (c) 3 organization providing playing opportunities for its members, educational seminars & events, a junior golf informational clearinghouse, Sponsor Clubs that grant junior access to golf facilities in North Carolina, monthly North Carolina junior rankings, and awards Junior Player of the Year and All-State awards to the top juniors in North Carolina. Any NC resident age 18 and under who has not started college is eligible for membership into TYGA.
