While golf may often be thought of as an older person’s game, that was not the case today at Bradford Creek Golf Club in Greenville, NC as the first ever Tarheel Youth Golf Association Tots tournament was played. The TYGA Tots tournament program was designed with the concept of introducing juniors to the game of golf in a fun tournament atmosphere. The event was a hit as most of the players were playing in their first competitive golf tournament. The juniors, ages 6-11, pegged it in the ground, nervous with hands trembling from the first tee jitters but focused and determined to do their best. By the end of the day the players had finished nine holes of golf, made new best friends, and learned many life lessons that the game of golf will bring you. The players competed in three different age groups 6-7, 8-9, and 10-11 with a modified stableford scoring system for nine holes. Head golf professional at Bradford Creek Golf Club, Mike Cato, deemed the event a huge success, “this is great, to have these juniors out here enjoying the game and making friends is what golf needs.” The next TYGA TOTS event is scheduled for October 25 at Asheboro Municipal Golf Club in Asheboro, NC. The Tarheel Youth Golf Association (TYGA) is a division of the Carolinas Golf Association (CGA). TYGA is a 501 (c) 3 organization providing playing opportunities for its members, educational seminars & events, a junior golf informational clearinghouse, Sponsor Clubs that grant junior access to golf facilities in North Carolina, monthly North Carolina junior rankings, and awards Junior Player of the Year and All-State awards to the top juniors in North Carolina.  Any NC resident age 18 and under who has not started college is eligible for membership into TYGA.
